Petrol, diesel, paraffin and LP Gas to cost less as global oil prices and a stronger rand bring relief at the pumps.
Motorists and households can look forward to some welcome relief this week as the prices of petrol, diesel, illuminating paraffin, and LP Gas are set to decrease from Wednesday, 6 November 2025, the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) has confirmed.
Fuel Price Adjustments
The following price changes will take effect at midnight on Tuesday:
Petrol 93 (ULP & LRP): ↓ 51 cents per litre
Petrol 95 (ULP & LRP): ↓ 51 cents per litre
Diesel (0.05% sulphur): ↓ 21 cents per litre
Diesel (0.005% sulphur): ↓ 19 cents per litre
Illuminating paraffin (wholesale): ↓ 1 cent per litre
Maximum retail price of illuminating paraffin: ↓ 1 cent per litre
LP Gas: ↓ 61 cents per kg nationally and ↓ 70 cents per kg in the Western Cape
Following the adjustment, a litre of Petrol 95 will now cost R21.12 in Gauteng and R20.29 at the coast.
Lower Global Oil Prices Drive the Decrease
According to the DMPR, the downward adjustment is primarily due to a drop in international crude oil prices.
> “The average Brent Crude oil price decreased from US$67.16 to US$64.14 during the review period,” the department said.
The decline in oil prices was attributed to oversupply in global markets as production increased, coupled with ongoing trade tensions that have dampened economic growth expectations and reduced demand for crude oil.
As a result, international petrol and diesel prices mirrored this downward trend, leading to lower contributions to the Basic Fuel Price (BFP) — petrol by 39.94 cents per litre** and diesel by **8.83 cents per litre.
While the price of illuminating paraffin rose slightly, contributing an additional 10.96 cents per litre to the BFP, the prices of propane and butane fell during the same period.
Stronger Rand Provides Additional Cushion
The rand also strengthened slightly against the US dollar, moving from R17.49 to R17.29 over the review period. This appreciation further reduced fuel costs, cutting the BFP of petrol by 10.60 cents, diesel by 11.77 cents, and illuminating paraffin by 11.53 cents per litre.
Relief for Consumers
The latest adjustments bring some relief to South African consumers, who continue to face high transport and living costs. With the festive season approaching, the decrease is expected to provide temporary respite to motorists, logistics companies, and industries reliant on fuel and energy.
