FlySafair has expanded its regional network with a new direct service between OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka, Zambia.
The airline is operating five flights a week on the route, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. The new connection provides an additional direct air link between South Africa and Zambia, supporting both business and leisure travel along an established regional corridor.
Flights depart OR Tambo at 07:50 and arrive in Lusaka at 09:50. The return service departs Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 10:50 and arrives in Johannesburg at 12:50.
Fares start at R2,800 for flights from Johannesburg to Lusaka and R3,000 for the return journey, excluding surcharges and subject to availability and change. Tickets are available through FlySafair’s website and mobile application.
FlySafair Chief Marketing Officer Kirby Gordon said the airline had been monitoring demand for a Lusaka service, with the route expected to cater for a combination of business, leisure and visiting-friends-and-relatives traffic.
“Zambia has long been on our radar, and Lusaka is a route our customers have been asking about,” Gordon said.
The new service adds capacity to air travel between the two countries at a time when regional connectivity remains important to Southern African trade, investment and tourism. Zambia is a significant commercial market in the region, with Lusaka serving as a base for companies and organisations operating across sectors including mining, telecommunications and financial services.
The route also provides travellers with a direct connection to Zambia’s capital and an onward gateway to several major tourism destinations. Lusaka is connected to Livingstone and Victoria Falls, while travellers can also use the capital as a starting point for trips to the Lower Zambezi and South Luangwa National Parks.
For passengers visiting Lusaka itself, attractions include the Lusaka National Museum, Kabwata Cultural Village and 37D Gallery. Chaminuka Lodge and Nature Reserve, located outside the capital, also offers wildlife experiences.
Gordon said FlySafair’s international network was intended to improve the accessibility of travel between South Africa and neighbouring countries.
“When we launched Cape Town to Windhoek, we brought fares down significantly on that corridor, and we intend to do the same on Johannesburg to Lusaka,” he said.
The Johannesburg-Lusaka service strengthens the network of direct air connections linking major Southern African cities, giving passengers another option for travelling between the region’s commercial centres and tourism destinations.
With five weekly frequencies, the route provides regular connectivity in both directions and expands FlySafair’s presence in the regional aviation market.
