Cape Town drivers should prepare for road closures and traffic disruptions on
Thursday, 6 February 2025, due to the annual State of the Nation Address (SONA) at City Hall.
According to city officials, several roads will be closed or restricted, with some measures remaining in place until 19 February.
“Traffic flow in and around the city bowl will be impacted before, during, and after the event, and parking availability will also be affected. While signage will be placed in restricted areas, we strongly encourage motorists to review the closure list and plan their routes accordingly,” the city advised.
Extended Road Closures (1 – 19 February)
– Corporation Street (between Darling and Longmarket)
– Perimeter fencing around City Hall, Parade Street, and Longmarket Street
– Pedestrian gate closure at Longmarket & Corporation intersection
Rehearsal Closures
4 – 5 February (6 AM – 11:59 PM)
– Darling, Parade, Castle, and Corporation Streets
– Barriers around City Hall, Parade, and Library
– Restricted access at gates along Parade, Darling, Buitenkant, and Corporation Streets
4 – 5 February (5 PM – 8 PM)
– Buitenkant, Roeland, Harrington, and Caledon Streets
Parking Restrictions (5 – 6 February)
No parking allowed from **4 PM on 5 February until 11:59 PM on 6 February** in the following areas:
– Roeland, Commercial, Buitenkant, Darling, Hanover, Parade, Plein, and Corporation Streets

5 AM – 11:59 PM
– Darling, Hanover, Longmarket, Corporation, and Parade Streets
– Security fencing and access control at major intersections
5 PM – 11:59 PM
– Lower Plein, Plein, Bureau, Spin, and Darling Streets
5:45 PM – 8 PM (Key Routes Affected)
– Newlands: Klipper Road, Newlands Avenue, Dean Street
– City-bound: M3, Philip Kgosana Drive, N2, Roeland Street
– Observatory: Anzio Road, Settlers Way (N2)
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, anticipate delays, and avoid non-essential travel in the CBD.
