Qatar Airways has now equipped its 30th Boeing 777 aircraft with Starlink high-speed internet, surpassing 50% coverage of its 777 fleet. This milestone comes just four months after the airline introduced the world’s first 777 flight with Starlink and only two months after exceeding its initial 2024 goal of 12 installations by upgrading 15 aircraft.
Enhancing In-Flight Connectivity
Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite-based internet network, delivers high-speed, low-latency broadband connectivity worldwide. Its capability to provide seamless internet access in areas with limited or no traditional infrastructure—such as over oceans and remote regions—translates to significantly improved Wi-Fi experiences for airline passengers.
Accelerated Rollout and Optimized Installation
Qatar Airways has significantly expedited its Starlink installation process, reducing the time required per aircraft from 2–3 days to just 9.5 hours. Installations are conducted within 12-hour overnight windows to ensure minimal operational disruptions.
Initially planning a two-year installation timeline, the airline now anticipates completing Starlink integration across its entire Boeing 777 fleet by the second quarter of 2025. This rapid deployment will enable more passengers to enjoy complimentary high-speed internet for activities such as streaming, gaming, and remote work.
“We are delivering on our commitment to provide passengers with the best in-flight connectivity at an unprecedented pace,” said Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, during Web Summit Qatar 2025. “In just four months since launching the world’s first Boeing 777 Starlink-equipped flight, we have already installed this groundbreaking service on 30 aircraft—far exceeding our initial targets. This reflects the efficiency and dedication of our team. Starlink Wi-Fi is a game-changer for our passengers, offering uninterrupted connectivity across more routes.”
Qatar Airways has streamlined the replacement of existing systems with Starlink technology, ensuring both safety and efficiency in the process. This rapid rollout highlights the airline’s dedication to enhancing in-flight connectivity and passenger experience.
