Ten Dead, Dozens Injured in N6 Bus Crash

Ten people have been confirmed dead after a tragic bus crash on the N6 early Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred about 15 kilometers south of Reddersburg, heading towards Smithfield.

Sipho Towa, District Manager for the Free State EMS Control Center, reported that the collision involved a City to City bus carrying 33 passengers and a truck.

“The crash has resulted in a significant number of casualties, with over 31 people injured and 10 confirmed fatalities — though this number may still change,” Towa stated.

Authorities have implemented a full road closure, redirecting traffic along alternative routes.

“Emergency responders and law enforcement remain on-site, working urgently to free the final trapped survivor,” Towa added.

Drivers traveling from Reddersburg are being rerouted via the R717 to Edenburg (27 km), continuing on the N1 to Springfontein (69.5 km), and finally taking the R715 to Smithfield (103 km) to reconnect with the N6.

For those coming from Smithfield, the detour follows the R715 to Springfontein, then the N1 to Bloemfontein (140 km).
