Grindrod has officially announced that Chief Executive Officer Xolani Mbambo will step down from his role at the end of this year. His departure, scheduled for 31 December 2025, marks the end of a significant chapter in the company’s leadership.
The logistics and freight services company said the decision forms part of a planned leadership transition. Mbambo will remain in his role over the coming months to assist the board in identifying and onboarding his successor, ensuring a smooth and structured handover.
Mbambo has been at the helm of Grindrod for more than a decade, leading a strategic transformation of the business into a focused, regionally integrated freight and logistics operator. Under his guidance, Grindrod secured major concessions in both Mozambique and South Africa — most notably a 25-year container-handling contract at the Port of Richards Bay.
His tenure also saw the company earn recognition on the business front. In 2024, Grindrod ranked second in the *Sunday Times* Top 100 Companies list, highlighting its strong financial performance and shareholder returns.
As the search for the next CEO begins, Grindrod says it remains committed to building on Mbambo’s legacy and continuing its growth path in the logistics and infrastructure sectors.
