Fuel Prices Increase from 2 July, Except LPG in Most Areas

The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) has announced new fuel price adjustments effective today, 2 July 2025. Prices for all grades of petrol, diesel, and illuminating paraffin have increased, while the cost of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has dropped in most provinces—except in the Western Cape, where it has risen.

New Fuel Price Adjustments:

Petrol 93 (ULP & LRP): +55c/l
Petrol 95 (ULP & LRP): +52c/l
Diesel 0.05% sulphur:+82c/l
Diesel 0.005% sulphur: +84c/l
Illuminating paraffin (wholesale): +67c/l
Illuminating paraffin (retail): +89c/l
LPG: -57c/kg countrywide,
but +R1.90/kg in the Western Cape

The DMPR attributes the increases mainly to a rise in Brent Crude oil prices, which averaged **\$69.36** during the review period—up from **\$63.95**. This spike is largely due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly between Israel and Iran, raising fears of global supply disruptions.

As a result, international petroleum product prices also rose, adding significantly to the Basic Fuel Price:

Petrol: +68.45c/l
Diesel: +100.48c/l
Illuminating paraffin: +83.20c/l

In contrast, the prices of **Propane and Butane saw a slight decline.

LPG Price Hike in Western Cape

Despite the national drop in LPG prices, the Western Cape will see an increase due to a temporary 14% adjustment in the Supply Cost Recovery for imported LPG via the Port of Saldanha Bay. This measure is approved for a 24-month period.

Interim Maximum Refinery Gate Price (MRGP) in Western Cape:
R15.22/metric ton (excl. VAT)
Maximum Retail Price of LPG in Western Cape:
Now set at **R36.08/kg
