South African Company Galison Manufacturing Begins Production of Container Wagons for Lobito Atlantic Railway
Galison Manufacturing, a South African company, has started producing 275 container wagons for the railway concessionaire Lobito Atlantic Railway. These wagons are scheduled for delivery in three phases starting from the fourth quarter of this year.
Constructed from high-strength steel, the wagons are designed to be both durable and lightweight, allowing them to carry larger loads in 10, 20, and 40-foot containers. The manufacturing process incorporates advanced fabrication techniques, including computerized beam saws and robotic welding cells.
The wagons will facilitate freight transport from Lobito to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and they will also carry cobalt and copper from the DRC and Zambia.
“The new wagons are compatible with the existing rolling stock in the Southern African Development Community region,” said LAR CEO Francisco Franca on June 19. “They were designed with local railway conditions in mind to ensure the smooth transport of critical minerals and other materials for both domestic and international traffic.”
