Department extends subsidised bus contracts with Autopax

Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport today, 06 April 2017, announced the extension of eight (8) tendered bus contracts with Autopax for a period of six (6) months.

The extended contracts for Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng Municipalities operations are effective from 1st April until 30 September 2017.

Autopax is a state-owned entity and wholly-owned subsidiary of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).

The Department currently manages thirty four (34) bus subsidy contracts, 26 tendered contracts and eight interim contracts.

The contracts entered into will ensure continuity of service to commuters in Mamelodi, Meyerton, Vosloorus and Boksburg areas.

Autopax took over from Putco who in 2015 suspended their services leaving over 80 000 commuters who used the bus services in the Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng municipalities, apparently due to ill managed bus subsidies and contracts that were not extended….
