Cable Theft Disrupts Metrorail’s Pretoria To Johannesburg Commuter Train Service

Cable Theft Disrupts Metrorail

Metrorail’s train service running between Pretoria and Johannesburg has been disrupted this morning due to overhead wires stolen at Olifantsfontein on both lines. As a result trains from Johannesburg are turning around at Kaalfontein Station and trains from Pretoria are turning around at Irene Station.

There is no train service running between Kaalfontein and Olifantsfontein Stations.

Metrorail’s technical teams are on site busy with work to replace the stolen cables.

Arrangements for buses are being made to ferry commuters between the dead section. Commuters are therefore advised to make alternative transport arrangements between Olifantsfontein and Kaalfontein Stations whilst waiting for the arrival of busses.

Metrorail management sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused and pleads with commuters and employers to be patient as Metrorail’s Technicians work hard around the clock to replace the stolen wires.

Commuters and the public are urged to report any criminal behaviour witnessed within railway operational areas to Metrorail’s Protection Services officials at stations and to their nearby Police Stations.

Metrorail Protection Services contact details are as follows: Tel: 011 013 0084 or 011 013 0052.
