The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) has announced a 4.84% increase in toll tariffs, set to take effect from 1 March 2025. This adjustment, which is lower than the previous year’s 6.25% hike, is in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) as reported by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA).
Sanral’s general manager for communications and marketing, Vusi Mona, emphasized that toll revenue plays a crucial role in maintaining, operating, and upgrading toll roads, as well as servicing the debt incurred from toll road projects.
“These funds are essential for Sanral to continue delivering quality road infrastructure that benefits South African citizens,” said Mona.
He further highlighted that a well-maintained national road network is fundamental for supporting essential services such as electricity, water, sanitation, telecommunications, and public transport.
“To meet the needs of industries, businesses, and households, our road network must remain efficient and reliable. While we acknowledge the financial pressures faced by South Africans due to economic challenges, these adjustments are necessary to ensure we can continue providing safe and high-quality roads for all road users,”
