A growing number of vehicle owners are bypassing long queues at licensing centers and opting to renew their licences online instead.
Rising Statistics
Data from the Road Traffic Management Corporation’s (RTMC) online platform, *online.natis*, reveals that over 2.5 million motorists have embraced the convenience of online renewals since its 2022 launch.
The average number of online renewals has surged, rising from 44,802 in August 2022 to 222,606 in the last month, averaging 7,181 renewals per day.
“Many fleet owners are capitalizing on the bulk renewal service for added convenience, with the RTMC successfully delivering licences within three to five days 97% of the time,” the RTMC stated.
Steps for Online Vehicle Licence Renewal
Motorists can renew their vehicle licences from home or the office by registering on *online.natis.gov.za*, where they can update their contact details, including phone numbers and email addresses.
Once registered, vehicle owners receive renewal notifications and can pay AARTO enforcement orders online during the renewal process. The RTMC has sent out more than five million renewal notices this year alone.
The service is now also available through several banks, including First National Bank, Capitec, and Nedbank.
Fleet owners, too, can save time and money by using the bulk renewal option.
