Volkswagen Expands South African Portfolio with Ducati Addition

Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA) has officially assumed control of Ducati’s retail operations in South Africa, marking the motorcycle brand as the latest addition to its growing portfolio.

Strengthening the Brand Lineup
The announcement was made at VWGA’s annual media event in Kariega, where Ducati was introduced as the fourth brand under the company’s umbrella in South Africa. This move further diversifies VWGA’s existing portfolio, which already includes Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Audi, and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

VWGA will oversee Ducati’s retail operations, including the importation of motorcycles, parts, and accessories, ensuring a seamless experience for South African customers.

Expanding Ducati’s Reach
To enhance accessibility and market presence, VWGA plans to integrate Ducati into three key dealership locations across the country—in Gauteng, the Western Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal.

The approved retailer in Gauteng remains unchanged, while a new Ducati retailer has been appointed in Cape Town through an existing Audi dealership. Plans are also in progress to secure a retailer in Durban to cater to the KwaZulu-Natal region.

Leadership and Growth Ambitions
VWGA has appointed Tertius Cronje to lead the Ducati brand in South Africa. With 24 years of experience in the automotive retail industry—10 of which were in motorcycle retail—Cronje is well-positioned to drive the brand’s success.

Aiming for Market Growth
Simphiwe Nghona, VWGA’s head of sales and marketing, expressed confidence in Ducati’s future under Volkswagen’s leadership:

“Ducati is a globally recognized premium motorcycle brand with a proud legacy. Over the years, it has cultivated a passionate customer base in South Africa. We are excited to continue building on this legacy by offering superior sales and after-sales services through our established dealer network.”

Nghona further outlined VWGA’s ambitious targets for Ducati: “We aim to achieve a double-digit market share in South Africa by the end of 2026. This growth will be driven by an exciting lineup of new models set to launch in the next two years.”

With a clear strategy and dedicated leadership, VWGA is set to elevate Ducati’s presence in South Africa, offering enhanced accessibility and service to its loyal customer base.
