Effective July 2024, Transnet has appointed Lekau ‘Solly’ Letsoalo as its new Group Chief Operating Officer (COO). Letsoalo brings extensive logistics sector experience to the role.
Letsoalo, a former COO of Transnet Port Terminals, has over 14 years in the private sector, having served as managing director at Aveng Manufacturing and most recently as COO of Cargo Carriers.
Transnet Group Chief Executive Michelle Phillips stated, “We are delighted to welcome Letsoalo back to Transnet. His global logistics industry expertise is invaluable at this critical juncture in our organization’s history.”
The state utility highlighted Letsoalo’s comprehensive understanding of Transnet’s operations. During his tenure at TPT, he achieved significant milestones, including the expansion of the Pier 2 Container Terminal, the construction of the Pier 1 Terminal, the development of the Ngqura Container Terminal, and the modernization of the Cape Town Container Terminal.
“Mr. Letsoalo’s international exposure, including professional experiences in the USA, UK, Belgium, Germany, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Japan, has further enhanced his leadership capabilities,” Transnet added.
