“Empowering Women in Logistics: Iveco South Africa’s Courier Incubator Initiative”

Iveco South Africa recently marked an important milestone with the delivery of vehicles under its Courier Incubator initiative to The Courier Guy and InterTown Transport. Launched in August 2024, this initiative seeks to empower young women and promote diversity within the logistics and courier industries.

The Courier Incubator initiative showcases Iveco’s dedication to fostering gender equality and expanding career opportunities in an industry traditionally dominated by men. This effort is a strategic collaboration between Iveco South Africa and the Commercial Transport Academy (CTA), designed to provide young women from disadvantaged communities with both technical and soft skills training. The program covers essential areas such as personal finance, social media awareness, defensive driving, and logistics operations.

Hands-on Experience in the Industry

Participants gain 12 months of practical experience within the courier and logistics industry through placements with host employers. With access to Iveco Daily vehicles, participants also build driving experience. Additionally, ongoing mentorship and support help to ensure a successful transition into the industry.

Reflecting on the program’s impact, Delray Vosloo, director of Iveco South Africa, commented, “This initiative goes beyond skills development—it’s about transforming the logistics industry by empowering women to step into roles traditionally held by men. The recent vehicle handover is a significant step toward achieving this goal, and I am excited about the future we’re creating together.”

The Courier Guy, one of the initiative’s host employers, shared their enthusiasm for the program. “Partnering with Iveco on the Courier Incubator has been a rewarding experience,” said Henry Van Dyk, head of human capital at The Courier Guy. “We’ve witnessed firsthand how the program not only equips these young women with crucial skills but also instills the confidence needed to thrive in this industry. We’re proud to be part of this journey and look forward to the ongoing positive impact of this initiative.”
