South African motorists will enjoy some relief at the pumps this month, with petrol, diesel, and paraffin prices set to decrease from Wednesday, 3 September, the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) has confirmed.
Price adjustments effective from 3 September:
Petrol 93 (ULP & LRP): ↓ 4c per litre
Petrol 95 (ULP & LRP): ↓ 4c per litre
Diesel (0.05% sulphur): ↓ 56c per litre
Diesel (0.005% sulphur): ↓ 57c per litre
Illuminating paraffin (wholesale): ↓ 37c per litre
Illuminating paraffin (retail): ↓ 49c per litre
LPGas: ↓ R1.32 per kg (R1.51 in the Western Cape)
According to the DMPR, the average Brent crude oil price fell from **\$69.06 to \$67.01** during the review period. The decline was attributed to higher production from OPEC+ and non-OPEC producers, a weaker global economic outlook, and uncertainty over trade tariffs.
“As international petroleum product prices followed the downward trend in crude oil, contributions to the Basic Fuel Price dropped across the board – by 1.88c/l for petrol, 54.35c/l for diesel, and 35.54c/l for illuminating paraffin,” the department noted. Prices of propane and butane also fell during this period.
With the adjustments, motorists in Gauteng will now pay **R21.55 per litre** for Petrol 95, while those at the coast will pay R20.72 per litre.
The department added that the rand’s slight appreciation against the US dollar helped cushion local fuel costs by about 2c per litre across all products.
